The Fall Classic - Rules

Rules:

  1. “Side-out scoring” will be used. “Rally scoring” MAY be initiated late in the day to expedite pool play; playoffs will remain “side-out.”

  2. Points per set (game) will be either to 11 or 15, depending on pool size.

  3. No open-hand "tips".

  4. No open hand receive on serve receive.

  5. A hard-driven ball may be open hand received. A hard driven ball has a downward trajectory and may be defensively played in any manner, as long as the action is not a lift (i.e. double hits allowed, including actions with open hands/fingers).

  6. Pushing the ball over the net:

    • OPEN DIVISON ONLY: MAY push the ball over the net if square and the ball comes out clean. Standard double rules apply.

    • ALL OTHER DIVISIONS: NO pushing the ball over the net.

  7. Blocks do not count as a touch.

  8. Directional blocks are legal.

  9. Players do not have to "rotate" positions on the court, but they must rotate the server.

  10. Teams will be placed randomly in pools.

  11. Top teams in pool advance to playoffs.

  12. Teams will play and officiate as designated on the pool and bracket schedules. Occasionally, teams may be required to officiate their own matches.

  13. All playoffs will be single elimination.

  14. Tie-breaking procedure is a play-in game.

  15. Poor conduct, such as repeated arguing of calls, foul language, verbal abuse, or physical abuse will not be tolerated and can result in forfeiture of set or match or ejection from tournament.

  16. Tournament director has final word on all rules, regulations, and disputes. Director also may move teams into different divisions if deemed necessary.
